Employers / suppliers of equipment for use at work must ensure that it meets The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations – ie. it must be suitable for its purpose and maintained in a safe condition.
Work equipment is any machinery, appliance or apparatus, tool or installation for use at work.
Broadly speaking, PUWER requires work equipment to be:
- Suitable for the intended use.
- Safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and inspected to ensure it is correctly installed and does not subsequently deteriorate.
- Used only by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training.
- Accompanied by suitable health and safety measures, such as protective devices and controls. These will normally.
cemarkit can undertake the work to check that the work equipment / machinery meets the minimum requirements of PUWER.
- Review your health & safety experience with the equipment (if already in use).
- Review the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and your standard operating procedures.
- Assess your equipment against the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.
- Consider any other risks associated with the use of the equipment.
- Produce a PUWER compliance report, along with risk assessment and prioritised action list.
